bustanut -
My sidebar gadgets were restored - (well, mostly) - after running the 3 command lines.

I was using the clock, the weather box and the calendar. Running the command line you specified has restored the clock and weather box.
The calender is now displaying as a calendar (instead of a small white box), but it displays no date. Any thoughts?

Fixed it!
Well, I finally figured out that the 'Run' command under the start icon was what I was supposed to click on before typing 'cmd' Unfortunately when I typed any of the three lines, I got an error message: 0x80004005 or 0x80007005, which unfortunately was not helpful. I figured out that it was the McAfee antivirus software that was responsible, so I called the McAfee technical support. After a short one hour wait on hold, I talked with the representative who was very helpful. He had me uninstall the virus software, then reinstall the virus software whereupon everything worked perfectly again! Success!

I have here the same problem. No more sidebar suddenly and dont know what knocks it off.
I could try a restore point earlier but my restore point are gone too.
My system works fine but it is working on my nerve cause my sidebar is gone and i really need it. Who might give me a hand on this .I already tried the CMD command earlier stated and nothing happen after a reboot.

Here is the real working solution: After a 12 hours struggeling with the CMD commands ," I finally found the real solution:

1. Open a command prompt by being Administrator (Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator)
2. CD c:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar ........(CD is a DOS COMMAND for CHANGE DIRECTORY )
3. Run these commands in this order:
1. regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
2. regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
3. regsvr32 atl.dll
4. regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
5. regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll

O, I almost forgot," REBOOT PC"
For some reason when installing programs ," some of them just terrorise the "atl.dll" and that why these problems occure.
BTW , I give this message to microsoft and they will include an solution in the SP1 that is comming soon.
I advise you not to install any pre release of SP1 yet or you might get more problems.

Have a nice day my friends

Gadget problem
It turned out the problem with the gadgets was due to an update that McAfee did to their anti-virus software. I contacted McAfee, and they led me through a removal/reinstallation of the McAfee anti-virus software. After reinstalling it, it has worked perfectly since! If your gadgets don't work and you have McAfee antivirus software, contact them and they can help you.

I have to say I'm glad I found this website. Unfortunately, both suggested fixes do not resolve my problem. This originally started when I uninstalled some software. After some searching I found the initial 3 dll solution and it worked. All was well with the Sidebar. Today, after uninstalling Kapersky IS, I lost the same gadgets ( Date Calendar and Stocks). This time neither the first, nor the second fix has brought back the malfunctioning gadgets.

Any thoughts as to how to fix this issue once and for all?

Same boat after uninstalling Kaspersky
Hi all

I'm also in the same boat after uninstalling Kaspersky antivirus v7 tonight. My sidebar gadgets have stopped working and IE is now acting very strange. Symptoms include:

- some sites don't appear correctly (as though CSS is missing in portions of the page), e.g. fonts appearing in "Times New Roman"
- certain areas of functionality are missing, e.g. some of the panels on my custom google homepage
- messages on ebay: "your browser settings prevent you from automatically redirecting to a new URL".
- Pressing Ctrl-F brings up the search dialog but the buttons are grayed out!
- After resetting all internet settings and starting IE again, it attempts to load the page "http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx" to configure IE, but this just appears blank, however the page is there if I click on "View Source".

Have tried the suggestions on this thread but to no avail. Any other ideas guys?

Thanks in advance
Andy

This way i solved the problem
1. Open a command prompt by being Administrator (Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator)
2. CD c:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar ........(CD is a DOS COMMAND for CHANGE DIRECTORY )
3. Run these commands in this order:
1. regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
2. regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
3. regsvr32 atl.dll
4. regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
5. regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll
6. regsvr32 scrrun.dll
7. regsvr32 jscript.dll
8. regsvr32 msxml3.dll

And then i reset my Internet Explorer to default values.
See the link, and don't forget also to reset the history. Then restart your computer and everything is working fine again.

I wish that had worked for me, but alas it didn't. While it may be a coincidence, what did work is PC Tools Registry Mechanic. I've used it in the past on XP with no problems, so I thought to give it a shot on Vista.

I was having the problem of gadgets not displaying correctly and the 3dll method worked. However, does anybody know how i can get the spanner to appear to that I can change the appearance of the gadgets, I only get the x and the dotted box.

Thanks

"google desktop that came with vista "

This does NOT come with Vista, either the maker (OEM) of your computer or you installed it.
