Bob,
Not sure about the way you see things, but this sure sounds to me like the disk isn't read:
"i put a floppy in the drive vista does not list it in my computer icon as a removable drive help please how do i get vista to recogonize my floppy drive "
Delmec is the light on all the time in the drive, or does it ever come on?

Since you have "i have win xp on 1 drive and vista home on the other", it seem like this is in the computer. What is changing is just the operating system. If that is the case then the cable and connection to the computer should be ok, since it work with XP.

Not necessarily so since the driver for XP and the driver for Vista are probably quite different and there is nothing to say if it works in XP it will work in Vista. It could also be what is on the disk that cannot be read ion Vista and not the disk drive itself.

So the floppy drive can work with XP but not with Vista. I wonder if the floppy drive can work from DOS.

Might try creating something like a Win98 boot floppy and see if you can boot from it.

The user needs it in Vista, what good would running in Dos do, there is no dos in Vista or XP for that matter.

Gosh no. That was to test if the drive was good. For example if the light was on all the time on the drive, and it couldn't even be accessed from DOS, then likely it couldn't be accessed from either XP or Vista as well. Just one more thing to test to help determine the source of the problem.

Don't you read what you wrote, you say:
"So the floppy drive can work with XP but not with Vista. I wonder if the floppy drive can work from DOS." If you know it works in XP, then who cares if it works in Dos?

Why it has no relevance to the problem and you asked the erroneous question?

My Vista computer came without a Floppy drive so I decided to take a working one out of a broken M/C and fit it to the FDD pins on the motherboard.
It does not work.
Now when I read the MS literature, it is not expected to work. This could be for security reasons: Walk up to someone's M/C stick in your flopppy disc, boot it up and read their data.
How can I connect my Win3.11 M/C to the Vista box?
