Even if Vista allowed people to install pirated software, you'll never get an answer here. This site doesn't allow such discussions. You'll have to go somewhere else to find a straight answer to your question.

What do you mean by Vista is put into limited mode? Does this mean the software is nonfuctional?

How would Vista detect a pirated software? What is this new security called... just curious?

I don't think this question falls under that category but its up to a mod to decide.

Remember that WGA (and its equivalent in Vista) looks at non-genuine MS products only.

I see no problem with using legitimate software only. Otherwise it is condoning theft.

Everything I've read, including the link posted my MMJ, only references Windows Vista and included Microsoft software. I haven't seen anything that says all pirated software will not run on Vista. That would be quite a feat for Microsoft if they found a way to determine if any application had been pirated or not. It would require them to have access to the source code for every application in the world, or every application would have to follow standard genuine checking or validation protocols. Not likely since so many apps are written by ordinary folk in their homes.

My post was showing that if vista realizes that it is pirated than it will work in "limited mode".

Thats it.

I concur with Double helix. MS would be playing a tricky game if they had a program which"assumed" one was using pirated software. There is, as he mentions, no hint that it is any other than Microsoft products. There are many, perfectly legal, reasons why a person could be running software without a licence for example.(demos, trials etc)
