Hi there,
I read the advise from the Forum and purchased a Firewire IEEE 1394, but Vista still dont buzz. Its not able to talk to my Sony Cam. Please help.
The only message that I keep on getting on clicking Import link is "Import Video could not find a compatible digital video device. Verify that the digital video device is properly connected and turned on"
I switched off my Cam and re started again. It doesnt works.

The big trick for Sony camcorders on Vista is knowing which connection to use. Most included support for video transfer via USB with Windows XP. Very few include support for USB with Windows Vista. Details on the full list of supported Sony camcorders and which ones require USB or FireWire (as well as which ones don't work at all) is available here:

Burning to DVD
I have Vista and have had numerous issues with the sr42. Many have been solved by going to Sony's site and downloading the upgrade from June. While my videos are saved on my computer, I still can't burn and to dvd's.

It gets 50% of the way through and an error message comes on. In addition, the dvd is wasted. Does anyone know of a solution to this?

Firewire does not work with Sony Handycam either
I purchased a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable and connected my Sony Handycam HC32 to a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. The computer still did not recognize it. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it? Thanks.

My new Vista notebook does not recognize my handycam connected by firewire. I shut off the computer, tried various orders of disconnecting and connecting of cables, and still get nothing. I tried calling Sony support, but the person just went through their solution cheat sheet and then told me to install Picture Package software in whatever compatibility mode. But I think Sony's website says that the software is not capatible with Vista, and I have read that installing it results in the BSoD so I am reluctant to even try it.
Then I tried connecting the Handycam to my old laptop with XP Pro using the firewire cable. Still nothing. I've even tried 2 different firewire cables. I read somewhere that the latest XP update messed with the 1394 port speed and that you can do get a patch and instructions to do a registry fix from Microsoft. At this point, I'm just using words that I don't even understand. Does anyone have a solution to this? I've got 2 years of baby memories on miniDV tapes that are useless. Thanks for any insight.

USB - no, ieee1494/firewire/iLink - yes
Talked to a Sony rep today after reviewing their support site (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/new...?news_id=128#). At first glance I thought my camcorder was fully supported for both USB and Firewire, since both were indicated so on the support table. BUT, the USB column actually reads "USB (Memory Stick)", and the last bullet point before the support table specifically states that the USB streaming feature is NOT supported under Vista. Frankly, I didn't pick up on this until the Sony rep wised me up.

Note that when I switched my camcorder to the memory stick my computer found and loaded drivers that work fine with the memory stick.

So, don't hold your breath waiting on a USB option - get yourself a Firewire connection.

USB and sony
Hi. I have a sony dv dcrtrv33e, which is a europeand dv camcorder. Like many people in here i am struggling to get vista to recognise a usb drive that will allow usb streaming so i can use my camcorder as a webcam. Andyone got any ideae's I have looked at compatibility but as far as i can see its supported. Also a few solutions seem to suggest a firewire. How can i tell if my laptop has one of these connections?

Many thanks in advance

Sony Handycam & Vista
I have my handycam working with USB and Firewire, to get the USB to work you have to download an update from this website: "http://www.sony.co.in/support/download/219423/productcategory/cam+standard+definition?site=hp_en_IN_i" (not the quotes) and when you start the program it will ask you to put the Picture Packet CD in that came with the camera.

DVin Error
ok guys, how about this one

My DCR-HC30E camcorder was working fine on my pc which runs XP. I was using a 6-4 pin cable there. With my laptop which runs Vista Business i bought a 4-4 pin cable which initially worked however i now have the following problem:

The DVin display on the touchscreen wont go away. Regardless if i take out the cable or even if i reset the camcorder. Its there PERMANENTLY!!!

This is doing my head in and I cant figure out what (if anything) ive done or its just completely fkd...

It worked fine on my XP pc, however now i cant even get it to work on there.
Anyone familiar with this problem?

Sony Neglects Windows Vista 4 Handy Cam
As the last person wrote, some sony tech support are indifferent to their obsolete software for sony cam. They have no good drivers for the Cam. You have some options however. 1 Finalize the mini DVD in your camera.
a) Insert in your comp
b) Use windows movie maker (already comes w/vista). Here
hower you will not be able to see all your videos.
c) So have to unripp your video VRO.file into mpg file.

I HAVE NOT DONE THIS BUT HOPE IT WORKS. LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS 4
YOU.

2 If you have Mac you need the Firewire port (or IEEE 1394 port for PCs) and
a cable called I-link (Sony product).

I suggest you strongly as well to complain to Sony because their negligence to update their sofware to make it compatible with Vista.

If you want to make your complain really heard send them a letter to

Hi all
I'm really pleased to find you all, I thought I was alone!!!!

I was just off to buy a firewire connection - but I don't seem to have a firewire port on any of my 3 pcs. There is a little port on my new laptop (Vista) but while it looks like a firewire port it seems to be a slightly different shape.

ANy suggestions?
