Angry Sound issues (an understatement)
I have tried 2 different audio cards and the onboard audio and I am still getting the center channel dropped. If I pug in headphones, I am still missing any sound that is recorded for the center. eg: I can hear background vocals and instraments but not lead vocals.

I have a new HP A1720N with Core 2 Duo and 1 gig memory I have tried realtek drivers from HP, microsoft, Realtek and Asus (they make the HP MOBO) all different versions with no luck. I also thought I'd try 2 older sound 5.1 sound cards and Vista auto detected them both and loaded drivers for each. All have the same sound issues. I am seriously contemplating buying XP and deleting Vista. Let me know what I might have missed here. I have an e-mail out to HP and I'll post any useful info the send back.

I've had the same problem ... Two sound cards and two mobos with integrated audio and the best I can achieve is plain old fashion stereo split over 5 speakers.

I know there are a lot of audio issues with just about every sound card and most integrated audio is pretty bad. I keep looking and hoping that new drivers will be released but I have yet to find anything that works right ...

The only piece of advice I have had in return from any source today was to try the XP drivers and see if that works, I'll post my results.

I have a Creative Audigy 2 card that was awful with Vista drivers and Mic didn't work either. Try to load in XP drivers and XP won't allow autorun. If you can get inside the driver and run setup or even just import the inf file and browse to it, the XP drivers will probably run fine.

Vista keeps chucking the XP driver as not compatible and trys to run it under a compatibility mode for legacy device. It then give me blue screen, dumps the memory and then reboots. I guess I am going to just get a copy of XP and run it until Microsoft gets it right.

Don't autorun it....you have to manually install driver.
