Are you using the latest version of AVG? I mean have you downloaded the latest installation file from Grisoft? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it?

Also you should NOT try installing or running AVG in compatibility mode.

I had issues with AVG with Vista, and I still have Avast! installed. I'm thinking I'll install NOD32 now since it's Vista compatible.

I have been running Avast on Vista since the Beta's. I have been meaning to try AVG on Vista but Avast seems to be doing OK.

You might try NOD32, probably a more complete solution. The price is right.

I've just dumped AVG for NOD32.

AVG did work for me except the updates would take too long, and it would sit there with the update window open on every boot. It got annoying. The earlier versions of AVG didn't work right in Vista, the resident shield would occasional complain that it wasn't active but that hasn't happened with the recent install file and updates.

AVG seems to work fine on all the systems I've put it on so far. Maybe it's just an update issue. Nothing wrong with the other programs suggested either.

I am using Avg and it is running fine. I also have Nod32 but switched to Avg to see if it would boot faster and it does.

You are NOT supposed to put any virusscan/firewall in compatibility mode. This can cause many problems.

Also, when you say this it makes me seem you have an XP version of AVG.

Download and install the Vista copy below:

Yep. Don't believe that was ever mentioned to run anything in compatibility mode.

You can get AVG directly from their site at:

Yes i do have the latest version of AVG but it kept telling me that i couldn't start the Resident Shield.

I have just installed AVAST! but id still like to get AVG working as i prefer it to avast!

S4BAZ i dont think there are different versions for Vista and XP. But i do have the latest version for Windows

I have already tried Uninstall and Reinstall

any one got any other ideas?

I wouldn't worry about it, this isn't the first time I have seen Avg have a problematic install in Vista and Avast has been compatible with Vista for a longer period of time. Remember today, spyware is a greater threat to systems than virus actually are, so you need to be running something in the background for spyware also.

I am also runninf AvgFree without problems. I have put the three mentioned here up against each other and none has detected any virus's that the other two could not also detect - so I guess it a personal choice. I have read in several places that AvgFree uses less resources but I cannot see that on examination.
