Should I upgrade?
Currently, I have a VAIO C1S/W with XP MCE and am getting vista for free. After consulting with someone, he looked at the specs and immediately said it was a bad idea to upgrade. Here are some of the specs (from the sony website):

Microprocessor Full Name:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5500, Supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology
Microprocessor Speed (GHz):
1.66
Memory Size (MB):
1024.0
Graphic Card Full Name:
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
Comments:
128MB maximum shared with Main Memory with Intel® Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0

Im going to get home premium, which needs good graphics, and im worried that my current graphics are not good enough. Will this be a problem?

Also, generally what do vista users think of it? Ive been using this laptop for about 2 weeks and really like xp media centre so i also want to ask if there are any major changes which will greatly improve my experience.

Currently Im planning to not install it straight away and wait until i get bored of mce.

The Aero effects may not be the most smooth with the GMA 950 128MB graphics. But the GMA 950 should support up to 224MB of shared memory. Check in your BIOS setup or see if there's a BIOS update for it.

If you do go for Vista, then you may want to double up on your RAM, Vista will work much better with 2GB's of RAM then with 1GB, especially when between 128 and 224MB of that will be allocated to the video.

Also note that if you don't use Aero then that will reduce the strain on the system and allow it run faster and smoother.

I really like XP MCE, but I like Vista better. I like how it runs smoother then XP, provided you have the right hardware. I find it stalls/hangs less when multitasking or even when booting up. It also looks much nicer, not as cartoony as XP. But as mentioned it may be smart to wait for a service pack, if you have a free upgrade then get it now while you can and then hold of on installing it until you feel comfortable doing it.
