Exclamation Laptop just installed vista, no sound At ALL.. Error
Hi there. I dont know an Awful lot about computers but i know a fair basic amount.

Ok i installed Vista Home Premium 32bit onto my hp pavilion dv2000 (series.. actual model dv2023tu) notebook after having XP and i have a sound problem. It has no sound at all.

i have done all windows updates, gone to Hp for the new driver, tried a few different ones to no avail. Im not exactly sure what soundcard device i have to try the manufacturer of that so hopefully one of you know?

I keep getting an error message saying "The Device cannot start (code 10)" whenever i try installing drivers. I uninstalled and scanned for hardware changes and it comes up with High Definition Audio device. and the same error message. its driving me bonkers. the comp was fine with XP on it.

I Spent an HOUR on the phone with HP (the majority on hold) which then told me to ring microsoft its a "vista issue" so i ring them.. another hour and a half.. and i know as much as i knew before the call... then THEY tell me to call HP!!! i mean HELLO? can SOMEONE help me please? i even re-installed Vista thinking it was a bad install. (it was always a clean install... it wouldnt let me upgrade). I dont know what to do now.

Some specs are

Processor: Intel (R) Core Duo 1.67GHz
Memory (RAM): 1014MB
Windows vista Home Premium
Hope it helps....

Thanks a bunch

To check what sound card you've got Start -> Run -> "dxdiag" -> Sound tab..

mabe try this as interim fix?
I don't know if my problem was the same or not. Similarly, after I finished install of Vista my sound disappeared. My default was SPDIF Conexant after the update and to be honest I never looked at what it was before (it never gave me a problem). Needless to say after downloading a bunch of updates from HP I was no closer to sound. The I tried switching to Headphones as the defualt and they worked fine. Odd thing was, when I unplugged the headphones (and not changing it back to the default) there was sound coming from the laptop speakers. It was softer, so I ramped up the output settings, but with it set for headphones... at least I have sound (quality is still comparable to what it was before).

What did the laptop come with? It sounds like you're missing the chipset drivers for the machine.
