hey guys, hows it going.

I've got abit of a problem with my internet sharing between my Main PC (XP Pro SP2) and my laptop (Vista Home Basic)

I've been trying for the last 3 days to get the laptop onto my home network. After none of my normal settings even came close I decided to eliminate my switch and just run the network cord stright from the PC to the laptop, Bingo ! it worked. after doing abit of fiddling, file and Printer Sharing is perfect. but still no internet connecting on the laptop

The Internet connecting on the PC is shared. After running a setup wizard on the PC, a 'residential gateway device' appeared on the laptop, it's enabled, but still no internet.

When I go back to the Network and Sharing center Page, the little picture that looks like:

Laptop ----- Network ----- Internet

the Laptop is lit up, as is the Network, but the Internet isn't, and the line between Network and Internet has alittle cross through it

Clicking on the cross, Windows 'disagnoses' the problem and comes up with either my modem is broke or my TCP/IP settings aren't right. Now I know my modem aint broke, so...

Here's my PC settings:

And laptop Settings:

Pretty much the only thing I've never encounted before is the IPv6 thing, could it be something to do with that ?

cheers.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Thanks for your cooperation.

If you configure the Vista machine for automatic IP address, and configure ICS on the XP machine, this should connect. My new Vista laptop connected to my router by simply plugging in the cable. The wireless came up, found the router, and asked for a key. It really should be that simple out of the box.

Morning

So I put the Vista Machine back to Auto IP and Bang, it worked. It dropped the connection for 30 secs and then found it again, Internet and all !!! It was almost like I had to show it where to look before I could find it itself, strange Why it didn't do that when I first plugged it in yesterday morning I guess I'll never know

Thanks John, your a champion
