Removing AVG Free
I've got myself in a bit of a pickle - mainly by not being aware of the need to remove AVG Free from my LapTop before upgrading from XP Pro to Vista Business.

I want to run AVG Free again but the files that have remained from the OS upgrade do not now work properly. I've think I've tried most things now but I cannot get rid of AVG Free - I've tried repairing it, re-installing it, removing it - it seems to do all three properly but still doesn't work. Trying to remove has not worked thus far either.

Are there any suggestions or recommendations ?

Thanks.

Had this happen a few times. Problem was not so much the files but all the entries left in the registry, even after uninstalling. Going through and removing them before reinstalling solve those problems.

Rich-M -

Many thanks - this worked a treat - I'm most impressed.

The trick seems to be to start a full re-install from the downloaded AVG Free file, find out and copy the registration number, enter your name as "free", and complete this phase of the re-install. AVG still won't work properly at this stage.

Then go into the ..\program files\grisoft\AVG\ directory, and start a a re-install from there. When its asks you to activate the product enter "free" and the product code copied from the first step.

Following this, return to the initial downloaded file and start all over again, only this time request a "repair" when asked. AVG then seems to work fine after this last step.

Thanks again.

Apologies - I should be thanking you too !

It was quite a simple fix in the end but stupid too - how many hours did it take to fix it though !
