Vista vs. XP Pro
I'm about to order new notebook (Lenovo) and they will load it with Vista or XP Pro, my choice. I have a lot of older programs that I will be loading in my new machine. I am reading a lot of negatives on Vista (easily) accepting programs. Can I get some opinions on what OS to install?
Thanks!

Well, if it were a year from now, I'd be leaning to Vista. However, if you have a bunch of older applications that you know work with XP, I'd have to recommend that as the way to go right now.

I just purchased a HP desktop with Vista Home Premium installed on it.

This operating system has its draw backs, but I can see it adapting very well to any software once the SP2 patch comes out.

Until then, you may want to purchase the Vista OS and maybe partition and install a dual boot operating system with XP Pro and Vista.

I will be doing this myself in the next week or two. If you wish, I could do the dual boot and let you know how it went.

Please let me know. The new notebook has 120 gig HD. What kind of space will 2 OS take up on drive.

You're going to have to get used to it at some point, might as well jump into the pond.

I would recommend you take the Vista then.... unless you plan to use your computer for business more.

Vista is overwhelming
Jeff B,

I was in the same boat my friend, I was in the market for a new desktop. I didn't have much of a selection because everything came installed with either Vista Basic, Vista Home Premium, or Vista Ultimate. I chose the Vista Home Premium. So far very few problems. You could also consider them minor, but still annoying. I had it running for three weeks now and am content with the performance, but unhappy with some of the hardware conflicts through other programs like voice chat rooms in yahoo.
Might as well get used to Vista. As John Will and s4baz had said, unless you are getting into more business oriented programs, might as well jump into the pond.

As someone who knows squat about computers, I feel very comfortable with my PCLinuxOS and with recommending it to others. There is a LiveCD you can trial with.
