#47 | Install XP on Dell with Vista Thank you everyone for your help. I got the computer working but I had to wipe the drive completely and then install the XP. And I do realize this was posted on the forum but some of the instructions are not appicable to every circumstance. Everyone has to find something that will work for them in their situation. Thanks. | | Senior Member with 217 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2004 Experience: Intermediate |

#51 | I updated the procedure mentioned in message #12 further to experience gathered since, especially after implementing dual boots on different model laptops. The procedure does not require the Vista DVD. | | Junior Member with 6 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2007 Experience: curious |

#54 | XP Vista install I have tried for 2 days to load XP on a HP Vista Machine, kept getting Blue screen Stop errors, HP machines have very limited Bios settings finally I changed the Sata Bios setting from Raid to Ide and Bingo Xp started installing.
I was so sure it was Vista's fault, I even deleted the Vista Partition Completly and XP still would not Load. I never though about Sata Raid drivers!!
Why HP even has Raid set as the Default Bios setting I'll never know this machine has only 1 hard drive.
I did not want to Duel Boot anyway, I still have the HP reinstall partition if I need to go back to Vista. | | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2007 Experience: Advanced |

#55 | I'm having the same problem too. I've been up since like 1 AM trying to get this working. My problem is that I get to install Xp and it works fine but then when I do the EasyBCD i can't change the drive letter. It just stays on C: then I get some weird message. I followed all the steps and even used Vista Boot loader but still nothing works. I even used your steps but nothing happens. Any suggestions? My Vista is on C: and my xp ends being on K: because my other drives take up the other letters. Plz help! | | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2007 Experience: Advanced |

#56 | Thanks this helped a little bit but I always got stuck on which folder to put folder Boot, and the files bootmgr, boot.ini, NTDETECT.COM and ntldr files in. I used to put it in "c:/" but that never worked so I just copied them into "c:/windows" and "c:/windows/system32" and now it works. | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 2008 Experience: Intermediate |

#57 | Can't seem to install XP I have a Dell desktop that came with Vista, I don't want to dual boot, I just want to wipe Vista, and Use XP. I have read all of the posts, and have done much of the process so far, but I am trying to install the XP portion, and I am able to boot from my CD to start the installation, and it get's going, but when I come to the screen to either:
Set up XP - hit Enter
Repair - hit R
Exit - hit F3
then nothing happens. It's like my Keyboard shuts off. But if I ever go into any other set up screens, or configuration pages, it's always fine. It's brand new. Is there anything I need to change to get this to work?
If any one has any suggestions, or can give me the easiest way to format my drives, and just install XP, that would be great.

#59 | Blue Screen problems when installing XP Hi guys,
well after going through different posts and problems that others mentioned, I think I've a different query here. First of all, I'm not a pc-gen so pls ignore if the qs sound incompetent.
I want to install XP on D: drive keeping Vista on C: So, as I boot from the CD (by the way I changed the BIOS for SATA to ATA), xp installation starts loading driver files. Then I see a message saying "Set-up is starting Windows Installation" and then the blue screen showing some error appears (which I think is because of xp being unable to detect SATA). So,
1) How do I install these drivers for SATA?
2) How do I get to the point where actually I can select a drive to begin XP installation?
Pls help me out... I've been looking for an answer to this for weeks now..!!! | | Junior Member with 2 posts. | | Join Date: Feb 2008 Experience: Beginner |
