IE7 will not browse Internet
Just taken delivery of new notebook with Vista Business. Everything setup fine and connected to internet via my desktop (shared connection). Can ping my mail/web server located 50 Kms away, ISPs DNS servers but IE7 will not connect to any site. Error displayed is :

res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm#

Old notebook with IE7 and Win XP Pro worked fine have checked all settings and they appear identical

Help please ... very frustrated !!

If you are using a router, try first disconnecting it's power and, if no change, try resetting it from the (usual) pinhole at the back. The latter may mean going into the router set up again.

What AV came installed on the computer? I have seen this with both Norton and McAfee preinstalled on new computers with Vista. The only solution I could find was to uninstall them and use a different AV.

Discovered the problem when trying to install AV software (AVG Free) and could not get to their website.

When did it stop working. Was it working once and then completely stopped or has it been a prob. since day 1?

If you can ping and it resolves to an IP, and you can ping your DNS, then you probably got what happened to my friend. Try uninstalling the last few security updates and cumalitive updates for IE7. it managed to kill both his IE and Firefox. Once i removed the updates going back to the day he reported the issue, all was well. I then reinstalled each update one at a time... his browsing is back up.

I only discovered this because i did a system restore point on his machine to the day before he had his issue, and his browser worked but the next day he called and said it was dead again, so i knew it was something the machine downloaded in that timespan.

Seems like a Vista issue only. His XP laptop connected to the same router and browsed just fine.

Folks, this is a very old thread -- probably long since resolved.
