Solved: Hiding partition in Vista
I just recently did some changes to my hard drive and now I see that drive F:\ is now able to be seen in the Computer section...When I got this computer it was a total of 3 partitions but only 2 showed just how I liked it.

I just feel safer if the recovery partition is hidden...But not sure how to do it....Any ideas?

Haven't actually tried this, but you can check it out:

start-->run-->gpedit.msc---->user configuration > Administrative Templates > windows components > windows explorer > hide these specified drives in My Computer

That is really weird you can restrict drive A,B,C, and D....But yet this drive if F and does not show up in the list....Also I don't have a A or B drive so don't think its actually looking at my drives.

You're right, that is odd and I don't know how to interpret it.

If you are a bit adventurous, and want to try something that works in XP but is not "approved" for Vista -- you can try TweakUI.

Googling it with respect to Vista compatibilty suggests it can be run in Vista IF you right click on it and select the "XP" compatibility mode AND run it as "administrator".

http://neosmart.net/blog/2007/tweakui-for-vista/

If it runs you can configure drives through this interface (taken from my XP install)

Sadly I tried it and I finally got it to install and even when running under compatibility mode for XP with SP2 still says it needs Windows XP.

Lol, I accidently disabled all my drives when using gpedit previously. Sure works a champ!

I just discovered this when checking the registry values covered here:

http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/148/

You can manually implement this registry edit. It appears the value you would want to enter in hex form would be 32.

You will probably not find the "explorer" key in the HKLM system tree and you would have to add that if you want this change to take place for all user profiles.

To open the registry editor, run regedit

PS if you haven't created a registry key before, here you would right click on "explorer" in the left pane and select "new > DWord"

Then you name it NoDrives in the right pane, right click on that and select Modify, check "hex" and enter 32

Great, I was pretty sure that would work but I was just trying to find the easiest way to get it done. Looks like the geeky way is the only way here.

I'll mark the thread "Solved", but just for future reference this is also an option available to you in the Thread Tools menu when appropriate.

You're most welcome for the help.
