Cannot connect to Wireless Network on IBM Thinkpad
Laptop: IBM T60p
Operating System: Vista Business
Thinkpad Access Connection Version: 4.31b

I am not able to connect to Wireless networks which are using SSID, and a Shared WEP key using Thinkvantage Access Connection. I can see the problem in diagnostics where the Access point authentication being used is Open instead of Shared. My routers are setup to use Shared WEP key and even though I specify the key to be shared, Access connection looses that setting and uses an Open key.

I believe it is a bug with IBM's Access Connection software. The tech support has not been able to help. I am wondering if anyone has encountered the same problem and has been able to resolve it.

Acer Laptop
1.73GHz Intel Celeron M 32bit OS
1526mb of RAM
Vista Home Premium

Just a suggestion and no way endorsing the following...

I don't know if this may apply to you or not but I just bought a Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router and the installation CD came with Network Magic Basic, which is a free software program that has a whole host of diagnostic tools for home network connections. Personally, I uninstalled it after about a week but maybe worthwhile for you to check out. It is available for download at www.download.com and here is the link: http://www.download.com/Network-Magi...ml?tag=lst-0-1

Hope this helps.

I have Netwrk Magic. Nice program, however it did not help in this case. I think it is a bug with Access Connection. If I change authentication on my router to 'Open', Access Connection connects without any problems.

It's too bad that my suggestion did not help... I am not too keen on network settings as I have a very basic home network and only use Open key settings, hope you find a solution to your problem.
