RDP Sessions Freezing
Ok this problem has alot of us fed up and ready to trash Vista. Between a group of us and a contact at Microsoft we cannot figure out the following.

Issue:

Log into a vista pc via remote desktop (RDP) from an XP machine and you can move around just fine. Then it freezes. The freeze lasts anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute and then releases. We have tested this with the following versions of vista.

Vista Enterprise 32 bit
Vista Ultimate 32 bit and 64 bit

This is not platform specific as we all have combinations of AMD and Intel chips.

I have changed router settings, network settings, etc. I even changed my router's firmware to DD-WRT (which I like for functionality) to test with.

The problem does not occur inside my home network but only when accessing from outside. So we were thinking it was our routers. The thing there is we all have different routers from Verizon's default Fios router, to my linksys, to another's Buffalo router.

Another thing to note is this occurs with VNC as well so I do not think it is isolated to the RDP client. VNC developers had a big issue with the way Vista handles session 0 and 1 which caused some issues. I thought this may be related but am unsure.

Also I can't find anything like this on the net other than a user or two who experienced this with RC1.

Any ideas???

Have you tried changing the TCP autotuning? Been seeing a bunch of posts of this fixing issues with TCP related freezing issues. Run a command prompt as administrator, and type in the following:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

If you ever want to turn it back on, just do the same with =normal at the end instead of =disabled

Hey thanks for the responses. A buddy of mine at work tried the combination of the two suggestions and fixed his problem. I have not been able to test as I am away from work for a couple of weeks. I just installed Vista Ultimate x64 on a new core 2 duo machine. Man it is sweet. I will test and update this post once I confirm.

Thanks again for the responses.
