IE7 going slow.
Hi, have just bought a new Dell desktop with Vista home premium. On using thr web it is taking upwards of 3 minutes to load a page. This is happening all the time. We have an Acer laptop which runs XP and that works fine on the web. I have just seen another posting which suggest that the AV that came with the machine 'Macfee' is the problem is this the case or is something else the matter. Dell support no good they want to wipe the pc and reload vista, dosen't seem right to me. Any help thanks.

Try going to All Programs > Accessories> System Tools> Internet Explorer (No add-ons) and try that. That runs IE without any add-ons. This might rule out a corrupt add-on. If that still doesn't work, then try using firefox. That will tell you if it has to do with IE or something else. If that still runs slow then you might want to update your NIC driver.

Are you using this with a wired connection or is it wireless? What kind of internet service do you have? DSL, Cable Modem, Dial-Up, Satelite?

This doesn't make a lot of sense. I would have to assume it would ship with the right driver and if it weren't right it would not be on the internet at all. I guess i would totally unintstall MacAfee suite (it's only a tiral version anyway)and try it with Avast Free antivirus.

Hi

look here: http://www.petri.co.il/improve_windo...erformance.htm

1. update dsl modem & router firmware AND lan drivers. Also, i would disconnect a lot of the extra dsl garbage apps your isp tries to foist on you.

2. if you have a third-party firewall installed, disable it totally...issues have been reported with CA(ZA), macafee, norton....

3. check your hosts file(you can either temporarily rename it and/or paste contents here.

4. hit up TechSupport for your dsl provider...If no fix, keep escalating it until you get Level 3 support.

Good luck.

It could be simpler, worth a try....worked for me!
Hi guys, i had this problem with a brand new pc. Kept finding websites with the same suggestions, none of which worked! Phoned Dell direct and got an answer that works!

Startup programmes in vista was my problem and it might be worth a try for anyone who is struggling. Hope this is of use:

1) START
2) ALL PROGRAMS
3) ACCESSORIES
4) RUN
5) TYPE "msconfig"
6) ENTER
7) <TOP TABS> "Startup"
8) Key: "Disable All"
9) Find All McAfee/Norton & check boxes to re-enable Anti-Virus
10) <TOP TABS> "Services"
11) Check box on "Hide All Microsoft Services"
12) Apply
13) OK
14) Restart System

Et Voila ! Internet Explorer 7 firing on ALL cylinders!
