No Shutdown?
Hello.

I'm currently running Windows Vista Ultimate edition and I seem to be missing something - my shutdown command!

I don't know what could have caused it. I've looked in my start menu options, though they show no signs of helping the situation.

I appreciate any help you can provide!

That is a weird one...

Is this a new install of Vista, or have you been using it for a while and just noticed it not there?

Are you logged in as Admin or a guest?

Fresh install, not even 48 hours old.

What do you get when you click on the right arrow at the bottom?

At the far right on the bottom, click the arrow beside the 'lock' icon.. it will give you shutdown options.

In control panel, Power Options, Change when the computer sleeps, Change advanced power settings, Power button and lid, is there a selection there for Start menu power button?

Thanks for all of the replies.

The arrow gives me logging off, locking, and switching users options.

Downtime, I did what you said, however, it didn't do anything to it.

So, no restart, sleep, or shutdown? When did this start? Is this an upgrade or clean install?

Clean install.

From the very beginning.

Not sure what's going on but it's becoming a nuisance.

I think you might find what you are looking for here..
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...1-6169568.html
Scroll down to where you see "Change the function of the Start menu power button"
Illustration included. Make these changes and the red button will then shut you down.

Thanks, Billy, but that was what Downtime had instructed that I do.

It didn't do anything.

Run sfc /scannow to see if it's a corrupt system file. If it doesn't run from Start Search, hit the keys>windows flag+r type in sfc /scannow, click ok.

I did so and I get an error stating that windows resource protection found corrupt files but were unable to fix some of them.

I got the log and trimmed it up to the point of the scan so it's in the attachment.

Not sure if it'll be of much help, though.
