Exclamation Solved: CD Inserted Into a Brand New HP Laptop with Windows Vista - and nothing happens !
To anyone who can help,

I bought a new HP Pavilion DV2395EA Laptop 3-4 days ago and it came with Vista Home Premium already installed. For a few days I began putting in some of my music CD's and importing the tracks to iTunes. It worked fine.

Today, I inserted a PC Game CD (Battlefield II if it makes any difference) and the CD-Rom made the usual sounds that you hear when a CD is inserted, and then everything just stopped. Just to make sure, I put it another music CD (different to the first one I put in a few days back) and the same thing happened - the CD Drive reacted initially then stopped. Neither of the CD's were run.

So I went to the Device Manager, DVD/CD-Rom Drives, and the CD-Rom is called

TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632M ATA Device

I right-clicked it and it stated the following under "Device Status":

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

Obviously I clicked "check for solutions" and it informed me that my driver was the latest and is upto-date.

When I select Driver > Update Driver it says that I already have the best driver software installed on my device.

My clear problem is that there is a problem with my CD Drive and I don't know how to solve it.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated,

Zeyad

Mar7abtain 7aboob!

It's great to be welcomed by another Arab!

And yes, the disc is original - I played it on my old laptop.

if you have a warranty and you bought it locally, it would be a good idea to get it looked at...

Does the drive appear in Explorer and My Computer?

Uninstall the device/driver anyway and reboot.

Then if you still get an error message on reboot, report what that is.

Ok I uninstalled the driver/device and rebooted. It said "Installing driver for device" then after a bit it said (and still does):

"Device driver software was not successfully installed

Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.

Try the upper and lower filter deletions in this article -- while it may not seem to apply to your exact situations -- it comes up again and again in various DVD and CD problems.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553/

After doing the registry edit, uninstall the device again and reboot.

I did this:

Method 2: Replace the existing driver

i.e. it uninstalled and tried to download the driver by itself, but the outcome is the same as before...

Im gonna try Method 1 now...
