Have you tried setting IE to the minimum security settings? Maybe the site needs to be trusted or a setting in IE is set to disable instead of prompt.

I also know that some HTML/XML application require a client side installation of software, is it possible Vista is not letting this code execute?

Yes before I shut it down (disconnected dls), I changed the setting from medium high to
medium and disconnected the pop up blocker. I plan to reconnect dls to in tonight and
try to completely disconnect all Firewall's. I haven't tried it since I disconnected Norton's firewall and I did read somewhere one time that some people had trouble with Norton's in other applications. I am not certain what you mean by that last part as I am sure you can tell I am not computer techie. They have wrote on their site that they are compatiible but yet they seem to know little about it and it is hard to get through to their tech people.

In regards to the second one:

Did you get prompted to install software? Many web applications will require you to install some kind of software package. If software installation is disabled off in IE, you will not get a prompt to install the software.

As for the security, I was wondering if you had set it to the "Low". That setting is much less restrictive than Medium/medium low.

Yes, Norton can cause some applications to not work. Pop up blockers can also cause problems.

No I did not get prompted but it is not software that I install. I orginally got a link to the site, so I don't actually have their software installed on my computer. I go to their site and go on with a password. I just works right on 98 but not Vista. So obviously if they are compatible then it has to be something with the settings on Vista. I am going to try a few things tonight and also call them back tommorrow.

Thanks,
Webbie

Any type of Norton software can cause problems on any operating system. Definitely uninstall it, and set the security settings to the lowest level. If you still have problems and the company says they support Vista and their software works with Vista, they should provide some type of support. Your first and most recent posts don't match up with the support level, so you'd have the clear that up.

If the site requires activex controls, going into options, security, custom level, and setting all activex settings to prompt, you will be asked to confirm installation of activex controls you won't get on default settings. It'll just stop you. You may also have to turn off protected mode. After, set things back to default. I've had to do that on a number of machines lately for real estate and evaluators machines. Though the description of part working, but not all, is consistent with UAC denying a part of a program to run. In that case, you won't get a prompt. I've actually gotten programs that say they are definitely not compatible with Vista running perfectly a week after UAC was turned off. Acrobat 7 Pro is working better than it was on XP, go figure. Fonts and stuff embedded in Word, wouldn't convert, they were just missing in XP, but are working perfectly in Vista. Same version, updates.

Downtime:

I do recall the yellow bar at the top comming up and asking if I wanted to allow certain sites I was on (it did not on the one I am having a problem with). I did select to upload the activex but I don't think it ever did.
What is UAC?

It's not uncommon for sites to want to install ActiveX controls. They're downloaded not uploaded. The fact that you received a prompt for such a control on a different web site has no affect on the site you're trying to access. Each site would have its own control.

Ok,

Well since my last post I disconnected nortons and lowered the security but still not working. I have though learned that the companies software has had problems with it running on IE 7 and I do have 6 on the 98 that I have been using. There is a lot of things in the properties of 7 that I don't understand but anyway have a phone appointment with a tech from the company tomorrow. One other thing that I did not know is that you can't just delete IE 7 and install 6, they sent me a email link that is some kind of work around for IE 7 that I have not yet installed, I am going to wait till I talk to them tomorrow. They did say their was some settings that could be changed but also something about some people saying that when the work around was added it affected their computer's performance. So I guess I will wait and see what they suggest.

Thanks,
Webbie

Ok I have another question if anybody is here.
Why does Vista not come with Java?? I did the phone call with the tech at the company
but it was cut short due to not being able to load to their conference page, so she could do
a remote viewing. It keep saying I needed Java to open it, so she is to call me back on Monday though I didn't want to wait till then.
I had downloaded Jave on both mine (98) and my daughters (xp) long ago and forgot I had and she said that could be why I could not get on. But I am going to download it later.
But can't imagine Vista having all this stuff on it but not having Java.

The Sun Java Runtime Environment is from Sun not Microsoft, so I'm not surprised it isn't "included" with Windows Vista. No version of Sun Java was ever included with a Windows install. Go to Sun's website and download it if you need it.

Yes I already installed it last night and the program is now working. As I said I downloaded it on my other computer years ago and had forgot that I did so it was already on my 98 when I went to work for the company though no one ever told me it was a requirement to make that program work and on some sites their is not a pop up saying it is needed. Surprised it was not on Vista maybe not but I still think there should be more things on there that the general public actually uses. Such as after this many years they still don't have a spell check on wordpad or notepad and I know that on download.com their is a free spell check that is one of the most downloaded freebie. Can't believe I have been messing with this for a week and all I needed to do was download Java to make it work.
