For some reason, since I updated to Vista, my printer prints all text blue. It's a cheapo HP Deskjet 3745. The drivers for it didn't work, so this is the pnp drivers. It prints pictures ok, it's just the text. I took out the color cartridge to see if it's just running out of ink, but then it didn't print anything, so I'm pretty sure it's actually printing from the color cartridge and not using the black one. It's a VERY light blue, so I can barely see it, and I don't want to waste color ink, so I'd really like to fix this :P I tried enabling "Print all text as black" and I "Print in Grayscale" with "Black Cartridge Only," but it doesn't change anything. Is there any way to fix this?

I have the same printer settings and they have always worked, until today.

using winxp.

Today I updated to latest zonealarm, installed and ran tcp optimizer, updated spybot, and avast av database (not the program).

Not sure how any of these programs might have modified the system to cause this.

I am either going to run tcp optimizer again and tell it to restore the saved registry or I will run winxp system restore.

Ok, got it; I think I'll run system restore first. If that does not fix it, I'll then revert back and look for other options...

gotta catch some z's first though...will let you know what haps...

Have you tried running the printer in compatibility mode for xp? This might correct the driver problem. Good luck with your problem.

System restore said that it made no changes/that is could not return my computer to it's earlier saved state. So no luck there.

Changed compatibility to windows 2000 and that did not work either.

TCP did not save my earlier state despite my having selected that option. So nothing to do here either.

Tried updating the hp program drivers but am already using latest.

Wow, smacks head, I musta been tired when I wrote that.

Next I'm going to try and reinstall the printer drivers.

O, here's how I fixed it....

I uninstalled the printer program and drivers.
I reinstalled the printer program and drivers.
That did NOT fix it.

Then... I changed my daughters account to "administrator".
I switched to her account and it printed in black.
I changed her account back to "limited"....
and it still printed in black.

As far as I can tell (so far), the problem is solved.
