Solved: Vista BSOD crash on shutdown
Hey there,

For some reason my Vista Ultimate (32bit) is bsod-ing at the final stage of shutdown and thus restarting my PC.

The only error message I can salvage (from the split-second it appears) is:

STOP... and lots of digits

Does anyone know how I can call-up the crash report or stop the bsod-ing?

Thanks

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to %systemroot%\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder.%systemroot% is normally c:\windows. They are numbered by date. You can paste that address in address bar to get there.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a 3rd party driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

>> Also go to the Control Panel > Performance Information and Tools and select the Advanced menu. There is diagnostic information and utilities there that may be helpful in identifying the problem.

I agree that it sounds like a bad driver. Do you have the same problem when you boot into safe mode then shutdown?

Is that the only and most recent dump file avaiable? It is dated 04/25/07

This fault is in an Intel Graphics Driver (ialmdev5.DLL) with the faulting process Itunes.

Make sure you have "automatically restart" UNchecked and "small memory dump" and "write an error to the system log" checked in System Properties (run sysdm.cpl) > Advanced > Startup and Recovery.
