Firstly, you should try disabling whatever firewall you have running - Norton? Mcafee? - the chances are that one of those is blocking your net access. If you could provide more information about your setup that would be helpful.

Same problem. Some time Explorer runs fine, and then next time I try to access it, will not load the web page. From CMD line, try to ping a site and it times out. If I reboot the machine, it usually allows me to load IE the first time. then after that, same problem. Tunrned off firewall, no change.

You would think after 5 years and some 10 billion Microsoft could get this right...

This is really annoying...

Are you using a modem or a router to connect? If the latter, go to your routers config page and check it's connected to the net.

I know Modem is connected to the Internet -- i have my old machine right next to me and it is communicating with out any issues. Weird thing is it shows on all the conneciton monitors that it can see the Net, and I can get/send email thru Ouplook 2007 with no issues. Buton the second attempt to go to the Internet either thru a hot link or just opening IE, it can't find the connection. If I totally reboot/restart the machine, same thing -- 1st time to the Net with no problems. All future attempts - can't find the page and the "diagnose/repair" feature says there is no problem.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.
