I give up!
I can not install Windözer Vista on SATAII drive/controllers!
It always crashes during install with all sorts of BSOD STOP 0x0000007B, 7E or 50
Corrupts the HDD, files etc.
The controller is a Promise SATA300 Plus4 with 2 Seagate 320GB drives
Any reserach I did did not yield any compatibility issues.
The same with the onboard VIA SATA1
I tried upgrade from XP SP2: fails
I tried a clean install on a empty HDD: fails
I used another controller: fails
I used another HDD: fails
The closest I got was up to entering a user name, password and name of computer.
Therafter it starts "performance optimizing" and then, bang reboot and vicious cycle beginns!
I even tried another version borrowed from a friend, no go.
HOWEVER:
If I connect a old 30GB IDE100 (PATA) drive to the onboard IDE port the clean install succeeds
and Windows boots!
So far I spent over 27(!) freaking hours trying to get it to run!
I'm about to shred the bloody software DVD! <scream>
Has anyone a clue what the problem could be (besides me)?
Thanks
Rob
