Vista Help!!
I am having some issues with Windows Vista. Can anyone help??
I just recently upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. My primary disc drive is a Sony DVD-RW drive. After I installed Vista, from the DVD, it made it so that my DVD-RW drive does not recognize CDs AT ALL!! Even using CD games, it doesn't recognize them at all. To test this, I put in another DVD game and it worked just perfectly fine. I then went ahead and installed my secondary disc drive, a Lite-On CD-RW drive. This drive recognizes CDs perfectly fine. I'm at a loss for what to do. Can someone help me?? And no, I'm not a newbie at computers, I just can't find any other issues that are similar to mine on any of the other forums. Thanks.

Try first swapping the cables over from the lite-on. If that doesn't do the trick it could be bad news. CD/DVD drives have two lasers. It sounds like the cd laser has given up. You could also try cleaning it with a cleaning disk.

Sony
I'm not sure if Sony has a Vista-specific driver, you may want to check here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/sel...IRECTOR=DRIVER. Also, you can verify that the drive is running okay by running this utility: http://cdspeed2000.com/download.html

Nothing to do with drivers. I have exactly the same DVD drive as a backup. Vista located it without any assistance from me, on installation.

Vista not working with cd/dvd drives
I'm having the same problem and also have the same DVD burner. In XP, it sees the DVD fine but when I install vista (using that DVD) it doesn't install the DVD correctly in device manager so therefore I can't see the DVD at all from within the OS. If anyonbe knows a solution to this i would appreciate it since i prefer visa over XP.
