Angry Problems with Vista, McAfee, and Firefox
Ok, so i got a couple problems.

Im running vista, and i finaly got my WMP 11 to start working again (it wouldent open, no matter what i tried, even when it came to streaming videos online, it just wouldent open) i had to reset some regestrys.. whatever that means.

And so i go to install McAfee (it wasnt working, uninstalled itself, i couldnt run the install wizard off the disc or the vista patch off the website... they just would open to a blank window.) and it starts the installation, everything is kool, but it dosnt install the virus protection firewall or something else, says i have newer versions installed, and i need to uninstall them before i can install the ones off the patch. so i figure, mabey its just the patch, and i install off the disc, same thing. So i look around my control panel, says i dont have mcafee installed. (if you guys dont know, mcafee 07 wasnt compatible with vista for a while, so they had a seperate patch install file you could get online and make it run fine... so thats what im talking about when i say patch)

i dont know what to do, so i go on firefox to figure it out... and i get like 10 error messages saying "onLookupfailed 551" and so i close them, and then firefox "shuts down unexpectidly". im on crapp IE right now and it works fine...

any help?

I'm not a Vista guy but it sounds to me like your Vista installation is "tweaked". If I was in your shoes, I would be looking at starting over (i.e. nuke the box). Hopefully, someone with more Vista experience will provide more useful assistance.

Peace...

To remove McAfee, try using the McAfee Removal Tool

As for the issues you're experiencing with Firefox, I would try uninstalling & redownloading/installing. I use Firefox on my system without issue.

onLookupFailed 55 1
I'm getting this same onLookupFailed 55 1 popup using FireFox on WinXP and I am NOT using McAfee AV. However I do use McAfee SiteAdvisor. This just started recently. I cannot positively place the onset with any changes but I have updated FireFox within the last month. Does anyone have any idea what the message is trying to tell me? I just click it and move on but it is annoying.

I certainly would not trust an old version of MacAfee with a patch in a new OS. Why not start fresh.

Talking OnLookupFailed popup
Brilliant idea: check FireFox help forum, which I did and found pretty much what you guys have been saying about McAfee AV ... RELOAD. I've reloaded McAfee SiteAdvisor itself instead of the FireFox plugin. This appears to have fixed the problem. I was getting the popup frequently and now have not seen it since the reload.

I see Mcafee go bad on a daily basis with XP, Vista is just horrible with it. I would consider something else?

Firefox should be flawless though.

For those running the McAfee software, are you by chance using the McAfee firewall as well? Perhaps disabling that might help.

Peace...
