Looking for Vista Home Basic Genuine CD only
Hi

I have a new lap top , it came with Windows Vista Home Basic pre loaded in German , but I would like to purchase or get hold of an English version becuase on Home basic I cant change complete language to English only on Ultimate with language packs etc

I have the Key , it stuck to the under side of the laptop , I just need a Genuine CD or Similar in English..

A friend said to me to borrow his ultimate CD and use my Key but I think becuase its Ultimate it wont work or ?

I tried the Microsoft Market place but they dont ship to Germany..

Any one have some ideas for me ?

Thx in Advance..

I strongly suspect that a key for a German edition will be of a different Genre and fail to activate as well.

You would need an OEM (preinstall) version as well, and if the laptop is a major "brand name" the key will only work with the disk shipped with the laptop, from that maker.

Major suppliers have a "royalty key" series that only works with their series.

You may have to buy an OEM version and a new COA

Thx for reply , I spoke to Microsoft and they advised me that it would work , it wont activate itself after install but I would have to go through the activation process over the phone.

Thing is , my new Acer notebook came with Pre installed Windows Vista Home basic in German , because it was in German I formatted the notebook incl the recovery drive. I have a Windows Vista Upgrade disc in German that has allowed me to reinstall but only in German. It was at this stage I called microsoft and they advised me to get a recovery disc from Acer , I spoke to Acer but because I formatted the recovery drive I would have to send it back to them and get them to re-image it at a high cost. Their are no recovery disc's available for me ( So they tell me ). I could activate the Upgrade CD using the OEM key stuck on the underside but I dont see the point if I can install in English first.. They also offered no support to me becuase I deleted the recovery drive , not that it matetrs becuase its in German..

I have XP loaded at the moment...

Even a Vista Upgrade CD in English would be perfect..

Good to see Microsoft being pragmatic. As I suspected it would fail to activate but the phonecall would fix that.

Good luck in your quest.

Well, the profile picture is a bit obscured, but that much seems obvious.
