Vista Mouse Problem
I have recently bought a new dell xps410. Everything was working fine until yesterday morning when my mouse would stop responding and would only work after I opened the task manager (only to stop working a minute or two later). The mouse is a HP wireless rechargeable optical mouse(PP034AA#ABA). I updated the driver last night and still could not get it to fix the problem. It would also randomly start scrolling while I was using an Internet browser (mostly FireFox).

I had to restart the computer using the wired mouse dell sent me and there has not been a problem so far with this one.

Any one have any ideas on how to fix this? I have been searching for answers but the only thing I have seen is the mouse might be clicking the background but no answer how to fix that.

my mouse is similar in that clicking stops responding... it still moves and and sometimes engages the middle click scroll function.

to resolve I just middle click and it works correctly for 5-10 minutes.

any resolutions to this would be helpful
thanks

oh and by the way I have a logitech G5

Well the best way to fix that problem is to delete to infcache.1 file from c:/windows/inf
you will have to give yourself security clearance to do so. It will recognize everything perfectly!!

I am also using Vista Home Premium and I am using a Logitech G5. The problem is that the mouse starts to randomly scroll and it doesn't seem to click at certain places. (Particularly the bottom taskbar and taskbars of programs) I was able to click and open stuff on the desktop, but not in the taskbar area. I don't know what's causing this as I'm fully updated on Microsoft Updates. I haven't had any problems until recently...

I deleted the infcache.1 file as specified, but it is still having problems.

I had the same issue on my XPS 410 w/ a Microsoft optical mouse. I hit the connect buttons on the receiver and the mouse, which seemed to help a little bit. Then I got rid of the metal mouse pad Dell sent with my pc - working like a charm now!

I don't know if this will help, but soon after getting my Dell, the mouse cursor would start jumping around. I contacted Dell, and the tech person I spoke with told me to use something black under the mouse. All I had at the time was a large thin book with a black cover. I tried it and the problem quit. I have since bought a black mouse pad and I have had few to no problems.

It would not allow me to delete c:/windows/inf/infcache.1 -- it said the file is in use.
