Angry Hp Health Check UPDATE failure
I have an HP DV9500 CTO laptop with Vista HP SP1. New in November. I have gone around and around with HP Tech Support, Case Manager and even the CEO's office. Clueless. I have HUNDREDS of emails from HP Tech Support filed with the most idiotic, non sequitur responses you can imagine.

Here is the problem and I ALMOST have a solutions - almost. My HP Health Check runs OK. But it informs me that it wants to update. HOWEVER, when I let try to up date I get a failure code and a 80070002 error. That is a registry entry error. It shows the registry entry location. The value there is "value not set". All I need to know is what two or three number entry to put in that location: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\LocaleName". Under that entry is a folder GEO and that has two entries: Default and Nation. The Default is "value not set" and the Nation is "244". SO I am guessing that I need to put a number into the Default entry. Any idea?

On talking to HP Tech Support they had two rather ridiculous solutions: 1) Remove the Health Check from the system, period., and 2) Destructive Recovery and reformat my hard drive. A destructive recovery seems to be their solution to everything. I've heard that tune before - many times. No way! Took weeks to get this system loaded and configured.

I was also told, by a case manager at HP that I am the "only one of the millions of HP users that has had this problem" so it's basically not worth his time to try and find an answer as to what to put there. He admitted that, Yes, that this was a HP created program and that, Yes, the software engineers at HP probably know the answer, but he can not, will not, has no way, to ask them for it. Apparently he is NOT ALLOWED to talk to the engineers. Like I said, clueless.

Judging from the many entries just here on this one forum, I am clearly not "one out of millions of users" with the same problem. Anyone have any idea on how to fix it or what code to put into that registry key? I've tried loading in the Active Library manually but it doesn't fix the Update Failure problem. HP Health Check still works and till wants to update ans the upgrade still fails.

Ideas? Solutions? I've already written to Hurd about his TS department, several times. http://oldegreywoolf.spaces.live.com/

Smile Hp webcam not working right
After I found out how to download and update HP QuickPlay, my webcam started being more reliable. No more restarting and the fustrations that accompany those webcam problems.

In addition to QuickPlay, I also use webcam software called YouCam. This program works with the most popular instant messengers on my HP laptop and since installing it, I haven't had any problems.

I can help all you guys out having the webcam issue.

I found this driver: Acer Extensa 5210 Chicony Webcam Driver 5.7

(I have also mirrored the file here.)

Here are the exact steps I took.

1. Downloaded the file.
2. Unzipped it to a folder on my desktop.
3. Ran the "Setup.exe" file in the folder that got unzipped.
4. Went through the installer until it got to the end and then let it restart my computer.{You dont have to restart}
5. Waited for my computer to restart.
6. It popped up something saying it was installing the drivers for my webcam. Waited until it was done.
7. Opened the Control Panel.
8. Opened the Device Manager.
9. Find my webcam under "Imaging Devices". I noticed it was listed as "HP Pavilion Webcam" despite having just installed the Acer drivers.
10. Right-clicked on my webcam and chose "Update Driver Software..."
11. Chose "Browse my computer for driver software"
12. Chose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
13. Unchecked the "Show compatible hardware" checkbox.
14. Scrolled down to the Chicony manufacturer.
15. Chose the "Acer Crystal Eye webcam.
16. Told it to install anyway when it asked me a question about installing that driver.
17. Waited for the driver to be installed.
18. Noted that my webcam was now listed as an Acer Crystal Eye webcam in Device Manager.
