Cool Solved: DVD Drive not working in vista
well basically as the title reads, my dvd drive (a LG) AND my CD ROM drive (Lite-On) are not being recognised by my vista (ultimate version)

The thing that baffles me is that ive had vista since february and they were working fine until a few days ago; vista doesnt even recognise them now. Also, the drives are being picked up in BIOS so i guess its something to do with vista...dont really know what 2 do...any suggestions at all??

thanks in advance

Generally the symptom is that they do not show up in Explorer or My Computer, but do show up in the Device Manager -- when they are uninstalled a "code 39" or similar error occurs on reboot.

The problem is usually remedied by deleting the upper and lower filter values in the registry as instructed in this article. Then remove the drive from the Device Manager and reboot.

You may find only one of those values there -- delete it anyway.

turn PC back on

Another thing that will sometimes make Vista not see or work with internal optical drives is if you introduce a flash drive it doesn't like or suddenly turn on a multifunction USB printer that has a built in memory card reader.

I was using a 1 gig USB thumb drive for the superfetch effect for over a week and all was well and then, I turned on my USB multifunction printer (which I very rarely use) and it made Vista go off the reservation..............

anything is possible when an update is taken.

Did you try to uninstall the controller for the IDE drives in device manager in order to let Vista pick them back up on a restart?
