Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Thanks for your cooperation.

What do you get on the Vista machine for the following?

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

My PSU had a wonderful flash and burn :-) so now I am without a computer for few days until it is fixed by service. [The laptop belongs to a friend who brought it over. Has taken it back. I will get and check it in a day or two.]
{Why did it not flash to my mind that the same command would run on Vista too? ;-)

Hope JohnWill is still monitoring this almost dead thread!
[JohnWill]

Finally got a spare PSU and got the desktop going again! Phew.

So now on my XP desktop I have set up my dial-up for internet connection sharing.
On the "Network Connections" page it shows my Dial-up connection as "Connected, Shared".
LAN is shown as "Connected"

On the Vista laptop Networking and Sharing Center shows:

[VistaLaptop] ========= [Unidentified network] ======= X =========== [Interet]

(where "Unidentified network" is probably my XP Desktop and the RED X denotes NOT CONNECTED??????)

Clicking on the RED X and trying to repair etc. etc. have no effect.

Laptop came with McAfee security of which i turned the firewall off hoping may be that was blocking net access but no good.

Here is "ipconfig /all" for XP Desktop:
Code:

C:\Users\ccccc>
Note: I tried booting desktop into PCLinuxOS2007 (my other OS) and tried to connect through that thinking may be its an XP problem. But similar situation there too.... while networking seems to be alright, internet sharing is enabled on desktop, still the laptop cannot connect to the net :-(

Thanks,
-SS.

[ASIDE: I would have connected the laptop directly to the phone if only LG provided the Vista drivers ]
