That's going to depend on the availability of Vista drivers for the chipset and other integrated devices. You'd probably need more memory, I recommend a gigabyte, but first check to see if you can actually find the drivers.

Oh alright thanks for the reply mate. Yeah more memory is really needed on it.

It wouldn't be possible to run Vista Aero even with 1.5 gig of ram would it?

I'm not really sure if the upgrade is worthwhile, what kind of enhancements are there on Vista that would be beneficial? I use the laptop for wireless, MSN, email, browsing, videos, music etc not much else really.

If you're reasonalby happy with XP on the laptop, my advice would be to leave it alone. Vista isn't going to give you anything worth the hassle.

The CPU will be a limiting factor causing a performance drop probably even with a ram upgrade (1 gig would be fine as far as that goes).

The principal benefit of Vista is the additional security barriers, but only a few folks really need them.

Vista Aero runs fine with a gig of memory, it really depends on your video card and the power of the processor.

I have to go with the previous suggestion here.

Don't fix stuff that ain't broke!

I agree. Stick with XP in that laptop. I've been using Vista in my new HP Pavilion a6050y desktop for the past month. It has some nice additions and enhancements, but nothing that is miles ahead of XP.
