Solved: Copying address book from XP to Vista.
I have my new Vista laptop networked with crossover cable to my old XP laptop. How can I copy my Outlook Express address book in the XP to my Outlook Express Contacts list in the Vista? Allan.

In Windows mail start with "file, then import and it is really pretty easy to follow. You can import messages the same way.

Transferring address book XP to Vista
I have tried these every way I can, but it does not work for me. I get "Pathway does not exist", or "access denied on security grounds" or something else. I have disabled firewalls; except that I cannot get rid of Norton firewall, despite the fact that I have de-installed the trial version of Norton. Can anyone help? Allan

Copy the folders to your new desktop and import from new pc.
Address book is Docs and settings, You, Application data, Microsoft, Address book, and then you want to copy the "wab"
Email is Docs and settings, You, Local Settings, Application data, identities, Microsoft, Outlook Express..
Oh before you do that open "Folder Options in Control Panel, View and uncheck 3 references to hiding files and system files...so you can see those folders on old pc.

Copying Address book XP to Vista
Thank you very much for this help. I have tried it and it does not seem to work for me.
Please bear with me while I try and describe what I am doing. I am sure I am doing something wrong:
On old XP I open W Explorer and find the Address Book File according to your instructions.
I right click on iAddress Book File and click Copy. Then, still in Explorer on the old XP I go to My Network places and find Allan-PC (which is the name of my new Vista). I click on Public and this opens the list of folders, Documents, Downloads, etc. I cannot find Desktop. I rt click on Documents and click on Paste and I get the following Error Message: "Cannot copy Allan: Access is denied. Make sure disk is not full, or Write-Protected, and the file is not in current use". What am I doing wrong? Allan.

Desktop is all the way at the top but wait here is an easier way...Inside OE click export and choose .csv for address book and put on XP pc desktop or inside My Documents, wherever you can find it. Do the same thing with email messages. Then burn to cd. Then take cd to a folder or desktop on Vista pc using Windows Explorer and copy. Now import from Windows mail to wherever you put the files. Do not try to do directly from cd, you must move to desktop or Documents folder in Vista.
If you try to use My network Places you will get hung up in proper sharing and permissions as most people fail to set that up right as they use those useless wizards. Let's make it simple!

Address book from XP to Vista
Thank you so much for your help. I now have my list of contacts in Vista. The right hand side of the Contacts window is taken up with supposed photographs. This is for me a waste of space. How can I have the use of the full width of the window for my contacts list? Allan.
