I have tried everything possible to set up WinFaxPro in Vista.
I got the following error message when trying to install the fax printer.
Printer driver not installed. Operation could not be completed (error0x00000002).

Its not compatible with vista, from reading on different websites, also it has been discontinued from symantec, so it will never work

Thumbs up Fax Software for Vista
As a previous post, try http://www.snappysoftware.com - Snappy Fax. I installed it with my new Vista Home Premium and it works like a charm. Worth the money. Only other option is to upgrade to Vista Ultimate.

I found snappy fax last week and got an evaluation version. My Gateway notebook has a Motorola SM56 softmodem chipset, and snappy balked.

Snappy's support team wrote to me: "We have never had much success here with the Motorola modems and our software.
It is the only modem that I'm aware of that uses a polling method rather than
interrupts to process data received over the com port. I *think* we may
have a few users using it successfully, but it was a complete no-go here
in our testing."

So I'm back to square one with Vista Home Premium.

Does anybody know of any other fax software that's Vista-compatible?

this FaxMachine shareware was updated for Vista, they've been making good such software for many years now-- major manufacturers have bundled their software: http://www.nicocuppen.com/download.php (30day FULL & FREE trial)

Lexmark allinones come with fax tools-- version 5.1 is reported to work in Vista, other versions not, or some do but only in compatibility mode-- some in 2k, some in xp mode.

Most of these modem models have officially released Vista drivers and/or been reported to work under Vista(fax-wise):

Multitech MT5634ZPX-PCI-U modem Super G3 is one of them....

Vista 64 bit Faxing Solution
Finally I have my Vista 64 bit O.S. back to ALL functions I was running with XP. That is to say I now have Faxing, Scanning, Sound, Printing etc.

The faxing was a little tricky. Yes, there is 64 bit faxing software available from vendors but, where are the 64 bit drivers for the fax/data modems? YOU MUST HAVE BOTH. My personal solution was to go with U.S.Robotics and their external USB 56K Modem Model 5633B (They are located in the U.K. and must have tens of model numbers for the same device).

Don’t make the mistake I made by trusting the reps in the United Kingdom to send you the “right” 64 bit drivers by email. There are drivers meant for the U.K. and there are drivers meant for North America. I spent a couple of days trying the U.K. drivers and was GOING NUTS.

The CORRECT 64 bit driver for Model 8663B is found on the North American U.S. Robotics Website which is virtually indistinguishable from the U.K. Website. Here it is:

http://www.usr.com/support/product-t...asp?prod=5633b

The free software that accompanies the Modem is quite basic and unsophisticated. But, it does work. It does NOT use the printing function of your O.S. and it is down to a “copy and paste” into the message part of your faxing “Phone Tools”. I don’t send that many faxes and so far have found it adequate.

Faxing Software update; US Robotics external fax modem (model 5633B) for Vista 64 bit.

Found a software update for the BVRP Phone Tools faxing software (free with purchase of US Robotics modem) for my fax/data modem AND supports Vista 64 bit.

HURRAH!...

I can now fax any document..Anything I can print can now be faxed…

The update is at the bottom of the page:

FAX for Vista
Has anyone tried using the new FAX program for Vista by Mighty FAX - it's called RKS FAX. The writeup looks excellent, and the price of $19.95 looks great.
