have you tried going to the Windows Audio service's Properties and clicking the Dependencies tab to see what other services it depends on and making sure there all started first? if not try that first.

good luck

first uninstall the sound drivers in device manager, then uninstall any software from creative or realtek on the system from add/remove programs. then just reinstall the sound drivers.
before installing the sound drivers check if u are able to enable the windows audio service.

if that doesn't work, try the following steps:
Step 1 Changes on Registry
* Open Regedit
* Click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
* Click on "SYSTEM"
* Click on "CurrectControlSet"
* Click on "Services"
* Select "Audiosrv"
* Select "DependOnService"
* Right Click "Modify"
* Click Delete (all that were automatically selected)
* Click OK
* Close Regedit
Step 2 Now Open services.msc
* Select "Windows Audio Services"
* Windows Audio Properties Open
* Select Startup Type
* If Automatic is is selected, change the same to Manual and Start the service.
* Then again select the same back to Automatic and Start it again.
Step 3 Now Open Control Panel
* Select Program and Features
* Select "Sigmatel Drivers"
* Select Remove and remove it from Program and Features
* Select "Soundblaster Audigy" (Only applicable if SoundBlaster Audigy is installed)
* Select Remove and remove it from Program and Features
* Then open support.dell.com and find R147075.EXE (For Vista), for Windows XP use the specific sound card driver from "Drivers and Download"
* Download Creative SoundBlaster Audigy software from suppor.dell.com (Only applicable if SoundBlaster Audigy is installed)
* Download and Reinstall the same on the system

instead of removing Sigmatel Drivers or Soundblaster Audigy, remove ur sound card drivers, and instead of R147075.EXE, install the sound drivers for ur system/sound card.

Having exactly the same problem but with Home Premium.

I got to step 2 of that and it still says dependences not running. Even after removing them.

I resulted to reinstalling the driver every time I restarted the laptop. I ended up reinstalling.
