Exclamation CD Wont Start On Boot! Help!
Hi,

I have Windows Vista on my machine just now. Now I just purchased Windows XP Professional as well, vista sucks.

Anyways, I put the CD in the drive and then power off my computer. I turn it back on and it comes to the bit saying Boot From CD: and it stays for a couple of seconds, but then nothing else happens. It then goes to a bit saying about recovering from an error and asking if I want to boot into Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Normal, Last known good configs etc etc.

And then goes back onto the Vista desktop..

I checked in the bios and my first boot device is CDROM.

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this?

I just want to reformat and remove every single thing from my hardrive, then install XP Pro and start fresh.

Please reply asap.

Cheers,

Rowan

Make sure the disk is clean. Sounds like you may have it set right, but you might also want to check to see that your cd player is the first bootable device, and with the Windows XP disk you got to make sure you hit "any key" as soon as you see the message to do so or else you have to reboot. Many times I turn away from the computer during a reinstall or repair and find I missed my time window to hit a key in order to start the disk. Sometimes I've found that some systems just don't want to play nice with booting from a disk (don't know if the issue has to do with the player or the memory or what) so if you have another computer nearby, swap harddrives and try the reinstall then.

This is a crazy idea, but try reseating your memory sticks and see what happens. If that doesn't do it, try that alternative method of installing XP by temporarily swapping Hard drives with someone else's computer.

What happens if you try to execute the xp cd from within Vista?

Does the drive read other cds?

I'm wondering if it will allow you to do anything from that side?

Or will it tell you that you have a newer operating system.

No the "Install Windows XP" part is blurred out so you cant select it..

Is there a manual way no.. like via the computer powered.. delete the partition and reinstall windows ontop ?

you could create a windows 95/98 start up disk and delete the partition and reformat the drive like that, but if the xp disk still doesn't load then you'll still be stuck. I'm still for the idea of seeing if the disk loads on another computer and then reinstalling xp by switching out hard drives. There are two cables on the back of the drive. One goes to the power supply the other goes to the motherboard. pull both cables out of the back of the hard drive and swap them into another computer after you've disconnected the cables of the host computer's drive. that's all there is to it really. The worst thing i can see happening is you might get a warning from the motherboard that there's been a hardware change, but thats easy to fix.

Ok just to let you know m8, I made that copy of Geniune Windows XP Home and then put it in and restarted... it came up:

CDBOOT : Cannot boot from CD : Code 1

and filled the page with it...

I have tryed it a few times and alot of different errors come up each time.

Any ideas?
