trouble moving files
I moved a bunch of video files and there are a few that wont move even upon repeated attmpts.

The error message reads:Error 0x800704D and Error 0x8007045D

Says cant move them due to a I/O device error

Any suggestions.

P.s. I tried to move them with Cobian backup software as well with no luck

Moving from where to where? What file systems are involved and what size files?

You might try a chkdsk /f on the drives involved to be sure that the file system is not damaged.

edit. Actually they are both NTFS. I am moving some vids from a 300gb drive (its too full) to a 500gb drive. Once I get them to the 500gb drive I will back them up to another 500gb and get rid of the oringinal 300gb.

Even if it worked, it doesn't solve the problem. And the Unstoppable Copier will copy files that are corrupted and damaged, so it doesn't tell us if the files are intact.

The fact is that the moving should be possible without any extraordinary means.

The OP has followed my advice and formatted the drive as NTFS.

I think theres just something wrong with my computer I moved a 56mb file from one drive to the other and it took like 10 minutes.

My computer is only a few months old and is pretty top of the line.

Anyway I tried what that link suggested and im trying to move the file again but it been trying to calculate the amount of time remaining for about 6 or 7 minutes already with no progress.

I rebooted and this time instead of clicking and draggin the file, I right clicked to copy, then right clicked on the drive I wanted it in and pasted. It imediately calculated the time it would take to perform this action (about 12 minutes as opposed to the hour it took when dragging it). But unfortunately after a few minutes the same error message popped up again. Im very frustrated.

Upon Googling the error number I found a LOT of people have this error when trying to do a system backup.

p.s. if I do a disk check to make sure the disk is working properly (and check automatically fix problems), will it delete any of the info on that drive?

I just took my externals to my moms house and used Xp to move the last two files. One moved w/out any problem and the other gave an error message stating that Windows delayed write failed.

But when I went to watch the video clip that Windows said failed it seemed ok. Im burning the video to a dvd right now and will watch it to see if it works.

Now I need to back up this entire 500gb drive to an identical 500gb drive. Im fairly certain that this will not work but I will try and keep everyone informed.

Also before I back up to the other drive I am going to delete all the info that is on it and quick format it to NTFS as it is FAT32 at the moment. Should I defrag is sometime during this process?

The backup that I tried with Cobian backup 8 ended up having 47 errors when it was finished. I hope I can find a sollution to this problem.

No other problems?

Just out of curiosity:
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)

Not any obvious problems. My computer takes forever to boot up now for some reason. I just figure its because I have the two 500gb externals hooked up to it now. I'll try and run those programs later.
