Dear Kumachan,
I am not a techguy. Just a user like you has had this happen on my old computer.
In my case (a common problem, I found out), It was the program I used to make the cd's.
Roxio's Easy CD or any other incarnation of, has a drag and drop app in their Software called "Direct CD" and it does not play well w/ others! I usually puts a file on the cd that is suppose to help other programs/ burners read it but often it don't work.
The only way I solved it was to install one of their programs on my computer (xp at the time). Unfortunately, it screwed up my computer royally! It actually threw out my CD drives and I had to go through a long drawn out solution to fix it. I haven't even tried my Roxio 7 on my new Vista PC. I have to do it though if I want to use my many files on MANY CD's. I am going to go to their site and look for any software updates for Vista before I do. Even then, I will cross my fingers.
Even if you didn't use one of their products, IF you used any prog that uses a drag and drop feature you need to check for updates for the prog, DL them, install your original burning prog, install the UD and hopefully this will fix the problem. Apparently, the drag and drop apps use a different form of writing. I think they write in packets?
Also, if you still have the old pc. You could copy the desired files to a Sharing folder, network your computers, set up file sharing, and access your files.
Let me know how everything go's?
take care,
