no boot, black screen, nothing else
Hi all,

I'm stuck. This morning I pressed the shutdown button of Vista and instead of doing that completely it got stuck somewhere in the twilight zone. Even turning the power off and back on again didn't help.

At power-on the PC beeps but the screen stays black and the monitor says no iput signal. The fan is buzzing and the dvd buzzes but that's it. My keyboard and mouse remain dead as I use the logitech mx 5000 with blue tooth and that only gets activated by vista (which sucks if you want to get into safe mode..).

I have had a problem before where the pc went into somekind of coma but there I gould get it back to life by connecting another keyboard and used that to get into safe mode. Now I don't see the bootlog.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,
Peter

Tried to use the rescue disc but no result, dvd light flashes but nothing happens

Make sure you are not in hibernate or sleep. Hold the power button in more than 4 seconds to be certain it shuts down and also then flip the switch on the power supply to "o" if present.
Then try to reboot.

How long have you been using your windows vista? If you recently installed or started using your windows vista, updating your graphic card may solve your problem. If I would know the manufacturer of your computer's graphic card, I can direct you on how to update your graphic cards. If you do not know how to locate your graphic card info on your computer, let me know so that I can direct you.

Solved
Richa was right, it is hibernate that is causing the problem. It seems that my shutdown button was by default set to hibernate and you do really need to take the power off completely to get the system out of its coma. Just to make sure that it will not happen again I changed the default option on the shutdown button..

Thanks dude!!

Peter

This is from Dell (If you are using the ATI Radeon X1300 and a Wide Screen Monitor)
"After performing an update from Windows® Update on the system, you may notice the Dell™ XPS 410 goes to a blank or black screen after the Dell splash screen. This issue only occurs when using the ATI Radeon X1300 card and Dell Ultra-wide flat panel monitors. Currently, Windows Update offers a driver for Dell wide flat panels that causes the monitor to go out of sync with the ATI Radeon X1300 video card due to an integer issue in the default resolutions code.

The CD that comes with Dell's flat panel monitors corrects this issue with the correct integer. All resolutions can be read properly by the ATI Radeon X1300 video card. After this issue begins to occur, it will be necessary to roll back the existing driver or otherwise update the driver to the Dell version on the monitor CD or on http://support.dell.com. Once the Dell driver is installed, Windows Update will no longer be an issue."

Same Problem, But not in hibernate...
I am having the same problem. But I am for certain that the computer is not in hibernate or sleep.

When I turn on the computer, is does POST and then, NOTHING. It just sits there.

Could it be a BIOS setting that is doing that? Or is it something else?

Please let me know, my sister is bugging the hell out of me to fix it.

Thanks
