Unhappy Vista not allowing Games to install?
I recently purchased a Duo Core Toshiba Satellite laptop which came with Vista pre-installed. When I tried to install Empire Earth II and Caesar IV, Vista would not allow these installs to take place and said that it could not recognize the disks. I tried several other disks with various programs and they were recognized just fine. Can someone please instruct or point out to me a solution around this frustrating gaming disk recognition issue with Vista short of re-formating and installing XP?

Thanks!

Can you be more specific with the error, as in what does the error say. If you can do a screenshot it would be easier.

Sorry I didn't realize, I won't make the same mistake again, Just figured it might help out... By the way, I just re-read the rules and I'm not being smart or anything just cautious. Which rule did I violate?

I don't think the programs I listed were ILlegal nor did I advise anyone to download or use illegal software. Correct me if I am wrong but in the DMCA does it not state that you can make single back-up copies of games, DVDs, and other programs and media as long as they are used for your own personal and private use, You legally own at least one copy of the software being duplicated, and you do not distribute the software unless you have the consent of those with the copyright. I am pretty sure that is correct and all other use is illegal except under very narrow exceptions.

I did not:

A. Tell anyone to pirate or illegally download games that they did not already own
B. Tell anyone to make copies of software for malicious or cruel acts
C. Tell anyone to Download Full or cracked versions of copyrighted software
D. Tell anyone to download activation cracks and/or illegal activation key gens
or
E. Distribute the copied software for others' use without copyrights

The only possible thing that I think could put me at fault was use of the word "emulation" which I believe I misused. I also don't think that part of the rules thoroughly details how I was wrong in those statements i made earlier. I meant to tell the person to do a perfectly legal act but now i fear further warnings or punishment from the fairly strict mods here. Chill guys, i meant for no one to break any laws nor did i want to encourage the use of pirating software or other things. The reason I told the person (or tried to) what i previously stated (i feel the mods are way to strict and if i quote my former words i will be banned) Because if you burn copied software to a cd that would give him the same problem as before. thats why I stated the previous. I WAS TRYING TO HELP!!! If I have honestly wronged and everyone is so positive I have committed or encouraged others to commit illegal acts, then by all means ban me, but I think that the others on this thread are taking this a little out of hand. Well considering I am no longer willing to talk on the subject for another few hours, So long.

Well, now that I'm lost as to what the actual question was...

The EULA also will state that taking any steps to circumvent the copyright is prohibited, so technically you can't even make one legal copy...

I'm a cautious type myself and think the EULAs and DRM people are pure nuts and should make minimum wage for a few years before they start pressing like this, still it is the law and these are the TSG rules.

The problem is, whether its right or wrong, if one copy/ hack is helped here, even legally it could be used just as easily illegally, and the boards may start flooding with hacks and thieves asking for help.

In the end, if these disks are copies that aren't playing, I would guess you can thank some security coding somewhere for the problem.

Lightbulb Vista installer
Just to ignore the meat of this discussion for a second and look at the original question - did you try logging in as administrator, then right clicking on your CD and selecting "Run as Administrator" -? Vista blocks all executables unless you specifically select run as admin.
