you need vista drivers which arent supported by the disk. Go here>>>>
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
and download the relevent drivers for vista wether it be 32bit or 64bit

Have you tried right clicking the motherboard Cd setup.exe and selecting xp compatibility mode. XP drivers will often work in Vista, although sometimes with a few limitations.

Drivers for peripherals come in this order, from newest to oldest:

Actual manufacturer-- Marvell, etc.
Mobo manufacturer-- Asus, Intel, etc.
System Seller-- Dell, etc.

I suggest you go to the homepage of each peripheral maker......................... Marvell looks like they provide a vista driver, your mobo has an acpi download

also, read your manual-- VIA is NOT your chipset(integrated Intel graphics driver provided shoulda been a clue)...it's Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...%2032&lang=eng
and: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...llName=Windows Vista* 32&lang=eng
and: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...llName=Windows Vista* 32&lang=eng
and: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21
and # 3 & 4 here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...l&submit=Go%21

as far as soundmax-- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102002

As you know, most stores have clearance items-- $20 will get a decent soundcard(disable onboard audio in bios), a few dollars more a graphics card(eons better than integrated graphics), half of that an ethernet card.... all fairly modern & w/ vista drivers.

Sorry you'll have to spend money, but you'll be getting way better sound.
In case you ever need to identify any peripheral....Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...11691&lang=eng and others: http://www.halfdone.org/ukd/
