Recovery disks
When I purchased my COMPAQ Presario, it did not come with any CDs but it gave specific instructions for creating the Recovery Discs.

I just purchased an ACER ASPIRE 5610Z - and it also did not come with any Program CDs. I am inquiring on whether creating a set of backup disks would actually be the same thing as creating a recovery disk.

No.
Recovery discs re-install to factory settings and installed programs.
Back-up discs (if you mean the whole system and not just docs) make an image of your hd the way it is after you set up settings and programs the way it is now.

That is what I thought. Though that leads me to the next query. I have been searching for a way to make a recovery disk for this laptop. Thus far, I have not found anything either on the computer or in the documentation that came with the computer. If anyone has information about the ACER ASPIRE 5610Z, I would appreciate the assistance

The typical install of an Acer prompts you to make recovery disks towards the end of the installation.

Typically I take it a step further by downloading all the latest updates and installing any software. Then I use a third party program like True Image and image it to an external drive.

To Witch

If you run Acer eRecovery Managment( Start-All Programs-Acer Empowering Technology) and click "Burn Disc",you will get 4 choices....
1,Create Factory Default disc.
2,Create User Back-up Disc.
3,Create Current System Configueration Disc.
4,Create Driver and Application Back-up Disc.
I created factory default disc and user backup when i first got my comp home, but the choice is yours.
Hope it helps.
