No Audio Device Installed Problem
Help! I have not been able to get any sound from my Vista Ultimate OS. I have a motherboard that uses the Sigma Tel sound card, and although the driver is up to date, and "working" fine, I get the No Audio Device Installed when I check the speaker Icon. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I found the solution... For anyone having the same problem, here is my solution. I went to the motherboard maker, in my case Intel, and downloaded the sound drivers. It did not say it was a sigma tel driver, but I took a chance, and downloaded it. I followed the instructions from the Sigma Tel site on how to uninstall the older driver, then installed the new drivers not from Sigma Tel, but from Intel. Lo and behold, I now have sound on my Vista!

Having similar issues with a 1 yr old Dell computer, no install disks or backup disks. Have a Sigma Tel high def audio Codec. Drivers I've downloaded from the Sigma tel site do not work. Same message as you received. I am going to try the Intel site as you suggest. Any particular other instructions? This has been a very frustrating experience so far with Sigma tel.

I had the same problem after upgrading from Vista Premuim to Vista Ultimate.

This resoved it:

1. Uninstall Sigma Tel Audio Program.
2. Doenload latest driver from dell: http://support.euro.dell.com/support...WW1&hidlang=en
3. Install new driver.

I had a similar issue with Realtek HD audio...the drivers wouldn't install properly and the sound device would not start. My solution was to go into the control panel/Users and turn off user account control. After I did that the driver installation was successful. Previously, the installation program would hang near the end and never finish, eventually timing out, with no explanation as to why. I am suspecting that it was because it was trying to write to a system folder without adequate permissions, but I may be wrong.

I quicky learned to turn off user account control in Vista. It appears to be the source of many propblems.

no worriz. this time i actually 'searched' the toshiba website choosing my model and getting the driver i need. now its all good.

all that anyone has to do is go to their computers website and search for the driver. it still helps to turn user control off if your sound device is being controlled by it.
