Windows Vista Backup Errors
Every time Windows Vista Home Premium Backup Runs it runs for a while and I get an error message: "The file or Directory is corrupted or unreadable (0x80070570). " It does not say which file or directtory or anything else. The backup does not run. I am backing up to a stand alone Seagate Hard Drive. The original backup to this device worked, but all subsequent backups I get this error. I have searched knowledge base for this error but not results. Has anyone had and solved this problem? Attached is screen shot of error message.

Thank You.

It would almost certainly be something on the drive you are backing up.

Run chkdsk and have it fix what it finds.

In order to run chkdsk in Windows Vista, you have to schedule it for the next time you start your computer. I did the following: I opened my computer, right clicked on this drive, clicked on properties, clicked on tools, clicked on Check Now. It gave me the "Can't check disk while it is in use and asked if I wanted to schedule the check for the next time I started my computer.
I clicked on schedule disk check and click on OK.

I restarted my computer, but saw no evidence that chkdsk ran.

Thanks

I was able to execute a full back up with Windows Vista Home Premium Backup Manually to Drive G. However, the schedule back up, when it ran gave me the same error message I posted in my original post in this thread. Any suggestions?

Try running chkdsk again watch the screen carefully as it restarts -- there is an option to "skip" that you might inadvertantly have taken.-- and look for a log in the Event Viewer (run: eventvwr.msc ) > Applications for "wininit" -- which should contain the log if it runs.

It appears to complete incredibly fast -- less than 1 minute when I ran it.

Look for any other errors in the System log as well that might apply.

Smile Thanks
It appears to be working correctly now, I don't know what I did to correct it!

I guess that's "Windows" for you -- anyway, glad to hear it.
