Comp Freeze Issues :(
Hey guys. Nice site you have here.

I am running Windows Vista on my Gateway laptop and recently have been having problems. My computer freezes within 10 - 30 minutes or so (time varies) after I log on. Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn't work... it just freezes. It doesn't matter if I log in and don't even touch the keyboard/mouse, or if I am browsing something via Firefox... it just freezes. Today, it even froze at the log in screen. I turned the comp on after it froze... left for 5-10 minutes... came back to the log in screen and the computer was frozen

I tried a whole bunch of stuff. My virus protector Avast found some trojans but that didnt help.. I used another virus finder and it found something but i'm pretty sure it got rid of it (?) and I've used CWShredder and the Hijackthis file gave me this output:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2

So everything here looks fine I believe.

I've also ran ad-aware and uninstalled a bunch of programs.. and now the newest programs I downloaded are month away since this problem started, so I doubt I have any programs causing this problem. And I tried windows update only after the problem has occurred. So I am kind of stuck here. Right now I am using Safe Mode with Networking which seems to work fine.

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

I have a Gateway MX8711 Laptop and I am having the exact same experience.. using different virus programs and stuff you are using.. You are the only post that I have found yet that is like our problem as I believe it is a new prob.. we just bought this laptop and it blazes hooked up to the cable (wireless).. and this is the only problem we have had.. if you keep using it .. it doesnt freeze but leave it alone for 10minutes or more and its hold the power button down for 5 seconds and reboot.. I have built and repaired computers for 15 years and know alot about windows.. however this one has really twisted my melon..

I took out all the stuff that was running in the system tray like the bigfix and stuff that was monitoring.. i turned off the timers that turn off the monitor and hardrive.. no screen saver..

Nothing works.. I'm heading in the direction of mouse drivers because they seem to conflict in use since it loads logitech drivers and synaptics touchpad drivers.. I remember seeing them in the beginning on an update to vista that changed the mouse drivers.. in the beginning..

All this goes to say.. I don't have a real clue but I work on it a little bit every day or 2.. I have always fixed just about anything I come across too.. my wife thinks I'm messing with her not fixing it.. some thoughts to shoot at would be good..

Anyone?

So I looked around the video card hardware/software and find that Version: is Not Available.. so maybe we have some kinda windows not liking the vid driver but lets it ride..

Also I noticed that my son has changed my hardrive volume name to "maker"
I dont think it came that way.. I wonder if that could be something..

Did you change the volume name on hardrive?

I have found info that people were having different but similar problems with the vid card freezing when used with graphic intense games..

I'll keep trying and check back here ever so often..

Good Luck
