Vista and Quicken 2006
Intuit say to load Quicken 2006 R5 on Vista as administrator, "cancel install, click run click .exe file on disk, yada yada"
Ok, with that in mind, how does one get the install disk with R5 as my original disk for 2006 is probably R1 and over the years the program has been revised up to R5?
I am willing to get macbook and parallels to run xp and 2006 but we all know Intuit will force us to upgrade Vista software sooner or later and then I am stuck trying to do this Vista load again.

The question I have in mind is actually should a buy a new laptop with Vista or Macbook and load Parallels and XP. My greatest concern is Intuit saying in a year from now "Sorry you need to upgrade to 2008 and run Vista.

Windows XP support is not going to go away in a year. When it does, then you can buy a new computer. It doesn't make any sense to replace your whole system now for a support issue that doesn't exist.

DH:
I am glad to know that you successfully installed Quicken 2001 on a Vista box.

Feb 2007, I tried to install Quicken 2006 R5 [ 32 bit ], on a 64 bit Vista Ultimate machine. Vista's UAC blew up.

Did you do anything special, to prepare for or during the installation?

Within the past 4 weeks, I purchased a Lenovo laptop with XP Pro SP2 as the only Operating System installed.

Dell also had laptops with XP available.

Other laptop manufacturers may also have machines with only XP installed.

Install your program, it will update itself real quickly, in fact it may even happen when you do the install.

The update to R5 might even be on the Intuit site. I still hold true to my belief that Vista is the new Windows ME....a stop gap measure until we get to the next OS whihc is due out in 2009.

As far as I know, you can't apply an update to Quicken before installing it like you can slipstream Windows patches. If the blogs you're reading say you have to have the R5 update before installing, there should be info on how to do it.

In the quick search I ran, Quicken 2005 is not validated for Vista, so you could have problems even with the R5 update. If you want to go out and purchase a Mac, you'll also have to purchase the Mac version of Quicken. Then why not just get Quicken 2007?

Or even better try running it. As I posted I run quicken 2001 with no problems on vista enterprise.

Probably no real help to you but I did a clean install of Vista and installed my Quicken 2006. It came up and stated that there was an update to enable operation with Vista. I do not recall if I went to the Intuit website or if Quicken did the update automatically but it did do the update and also updated to release 5. I am running Quicken release 5 with no problems on Vista. I suggest that a Quicken 6 install and then update should work. As far as Intuit requiring complete new versions every couple of years, they have that option (it's their software ). I see no reason to upgrade as Quicken 2006 (or 2001 or 2004 etc) will do my checkbook from now till HFO. The only reason I might want to upgrade to a new version would be 1. If it offered something that I simply couldn't or wouldn't do without. 2. Just because I want to. You may have specific reasons that differ from mine or someone else however. But basically, do an install and see if the updates come up for you.
