Email Links
Up until today, links in emails have been working perfectly well. Today, however, clicking on a link produced this message:

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your administrator"

Sadly, I am the administrator!

However, I 'googled' it and came up with a Microsoft paper that said to solve this problem, I had to:

'Click USER CONFIGURATION, click ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES, and then click SYSTEM'

Ok, anyone help me on this one? How do I access User Conguration etc, ect.

Type in RUN Gpedit.msc. You will see the path there quite easily

Hi,

By way of an update, Gpedit.msc does not work in Vista Home Premium. Only works in Ultimate.

Cannot find an alternative either.

Thanks for your help nonetheless.

I found this with a bit of browsing. Would you like to give it a try?
Click start
- Type: regedit
- Press enter
- In the left, expand the following folders (by clicking the triangle
next to them):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Policies
Microsoft

- In the left, right-click the folder that says "Internet Explorer" and
click Delete

- In the left, scroll back up to the top and collapse HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- In the left, expand the following folders (by clicking the triangle
next to them):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Policies
Microsoft

- In the left, if it exists, right-click the folder that says "Internet
Explorer" and click Delete
- Close the registry editor
- Close any open Internet Explorer windows

This should remove any restrictions that were put in place on your
Internet Explorer.

You were right to say "if it exists"...

Needless to say, it doesn't. When I open the Microsoft Folder, I have System Certificates and also Windows - neither of which help.

The good news, however, is that ( for what ever reason) the problem has disappeard. The only thing I did which I think helped was disable User Accounts.

Thanks for your help.
