Vista and Verizon FIOS connectivity problems I just bought an HP Pavilion running "Vista Home" but can't get an internet connection through Verizon FIOS which we had installed a month ago. I checked the connection and Ethernet cable with our new iMac which runs great from all the Ethernet jacks installed in the house and my older Mac G4 hooked right up with no issues except I change the setting in the Control Panel from "Dial-up" to "Ethernet."
But this new PC running Vista just won't connect up or recognize the router or vice versa. On the router, the port the PC is hooked up is lit but blinks rapidly. The Mac's ports on the router blink steadily and the connection is fine.
I spoke with both Verizon and HP. Verizon thinks its the Ethernet Card (which I think is unusual for a brand new computer) and when I spoke with HP for 2 hours today trying to figure it out they think its the Verizon router.
The HP guy had me run an ipconfig /all with the results below. He thought something was wrong with the "Default Gateway" which shows nothing and the "Subnet Task" says "255.255.0.0" instead of "255.255.255.0" but the only thing he could conclude was that the router was not recognizing the PC.
I did disable the Firewall in Vista. When I do try to connect it says it trying to connect through PPPoE and insists on me filling in a user name and password and we don't have to do that on the Macs.
When I diagnose the network connection I get an Error 815 saying I can't get a broadband connection and need to fill in the "service" provider and to get in touch with the ISP to ask what to put in the "service" field.
When we had FIOS installed the technician used the iMac to run the VERIZON CD to set up the account, but I can't locate the CD. He may have taken it with him, I told the tech we would be getting a PC soon and he mentioned I only needed to use just the one computer to set up the account.
Anyway this is what the ipconfig says. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Chip
