Sata drive shuts my pc down
Ive got a western digital 320 gig sata hd an all i can do with it is store things, if i try to install or do anything that takes any time my pc just shuts down.Ive got a brand new system and tried new cables, my pc works fine without it hooked up if i try to use it to do anything expect copy one movie at a time to the drive my pc shuts off.If any solutions to this problem are available that would be great. My specs:dual core athalon 64 x2 4600+, abit mobo (nf m25), gig of pc6400 ddr 800mhz, geforce 7600 gt 256mb pcie,everything brand new runs off my 120 gig ide hd and works fine .the sata is my only hope for more space ive only got 1 ide slot ,which i didnt know before i bought the mobo.i figured no big deal guess i get to try out sata for the first time any answers for me?

you need to make sure that you have ALL the drivers for all of your equipment make sure that you get the live update program for your motherboard in particular.

sometimes with motherboards certain combinations of equipment causes motherboard controller bugs.

as for links, this isnt a complete walkthrough site, hit up your manufac's websites and get searching.

You might have a bad cable or a bad drive. Be certain that sata drives are enabled in bios also. Be careful as every bios is different but you could be on Raid setup using 1 drive, I have seen it all but if all else fails download and run the Wd hard drive testing software from their website and see how the drive fares.
