downloading email attachments
Using new Vista - any word attachments that come in my e-mail are "read only".
This causes a lot of problems as I need to download them onto another computer and work on them in XP or Windows 2000 and resend them edited. Any help out there???

On my setup I can? I cannot see any option which could alter that status. Is it possible that the sender is protecting them by some means?

Have you tried saving the Word document then viewing the properties? If the Read only flag is set, just uncheck it. It should be able to be edited then.

If you're using Windows Mail in Vista, goto menu Tools>Options>Security, then uncheck the option for "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

No, I don't think that is what he is looking for. A *.doc file, which I assume is what he is talking about (?. He mentions " word" files) would not be classified as harmful.
